The
University of Oklahoma is on a beautiful campus, located in the heart
of Norman,
a town with a population of about 100,000. Norman was ranked
6th in the 2008 Money Magazine's list of America's best small cities.
It is a charming town with tree-lined streets and excellent public schools,
popular and locally owned restaurants and local markets, and great year-round
events,
such as Jazz in June, the Norman Water Garden Tour, the Chocolate Festival,
the Midsummer Nights' Fair, the Medieval Fair, the May Fair Arts Festival,
the Winterfest Celebration, the Norman Music Festival, the Cleveland
County Fair, and the Annual Intertribal Gourd Dance. Other popular attractions
include the Firehouse
Art Center, the Jacobson
House Native Art Center, the Fred
Jones Jr. Museum of Art, bed & breakfasts, downtown antique
stores, several wonderful parks, rodeos, pow wows, and nearby Lake
Thunderbird. Oklahoma City, located about 20 miles north of Norman,
offers numerous attractions, such as the legendary National
Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, the Myriad
Botanical Gardens, the Oklahoma
City Zoo, and historic Bricktown,
a renovated entertainment and dining district. Oklahoma also has 50
state parks and the Wichita
Mountains National Wildlife Refuge, which showcase the natural beauty
and ecosystem diversity throughout the state.
